Eric Lembo and Trang Nguyen received a ton of social media backlash after peope found out they had spent $39,000 on a Birthday part for their 3 year old daughter. Many people felt that the money should have gone to those in need. Others predicted that the girl would grow up to be a spoiled brat, due to the extravagance. One comment actually suggested that they place their daughter in a refugee camp so she could learn the value of money!
If you only hear the price tag of the party, I can see the shock. I will never understand why anyone would suggest an innocent child be placed in a refugee camp though. Regardless, I don’t think people should be so quick to judge. This family has used their money for the good of others many times. They regularly donate to charity. In fact, they were even generous to pay for a wedding for a complete stranger once! Eric heard that the bride had a terminal illness and knew he had to help her. How many people do you know who would do that?

Back to the $39,000…the child was not showered with a brand new car, or lavish gifts in the amount of $39,000. The price tag of the party paid for their 200 friends and family members. Trang (the 3 Year old’s mom) and her family are former members of a Vietnamese refugee camp. Growing up in such awful conditions, they clearly understand the value of money. The fact that Eric did something special not only for his daughter, but for his wife and her family is actually very sweet. Trang is Vietnamese and Eric is Italian, birthday’s are a big deal in both cultures and a time for family to celebrate!
I’ll admit that $39,000 is A LOT of money to spend in a child’s Birthday and I would probably never do it myself.
